MobileMe and .Mac Pages - You've Been Warned.

At first, I thought MobileMe was going to be taken down. But it's just the .Mac service.

Last chance to update and correct those tacky, problem prone, strange characters, slow, JavaScript problem and 'oh what the heck happened to my fonts' .Mac Pages.

After July 7 2009 you won't be able to edit them anymore! Sounds fun.

MobileMe is a really great service on the Mac.

The hiccups in the past were a bit scary, but now having used the service for a bit, the seamless syncing of all your photos,calendars and contacts with your iPhone for a pretty good price is quite dreamy. It looks pretty to boot.

Though, it would be even nice(r) to be able to use your own domain and be able to access the iDisk on the iPhone or sync the notes.

Netbooks - Size no Longer Matters.

Is it me or are Netbooks getting bigger?

Where's the gimmicky fun in that?

Acer Timeline - What a Cheap name. But it's thin!

A part from the Best Buy like 'Timeline' name. This notebook sounds and looks a bit fantastic.

Thin, cheap and being Acer, it'll be packed with every feature you can throw at it. You know, the boring Core 2 Duo, the Wi-Fi, 13 inch and bigger, LED etc..

Not so interested but new'ish feature are the 'Smart Power' key which reduces power consumption. I hate power setting features. I dislike those back light dims/time outs, sluggish power saving performance features and all that. Just 'run full power and last for hours' power setting please.

I'm more interested in the gimmicks! You know, the brushed aluminum, less than an inch thick, fun touch sensitive but useless function assigned hot keys, funky but strange 1366 x 768 solution screen and the 'let it be true this time' all day computing on a single charge.

Looking forward to this.

Windows 7 - Switch to a PC?

This is one piece of software that is probably going to prevent me from switching to a mac. Currently the mac is a little too expensive. Yes, the price has come down, but so has the price of PCs. It's the price of a mac and the addition of Applecare that seems to make it just out of reach. Besides, tech at discounted prices gets me well excited.

Although netbooks are so cheap that it can be used for a bit of fun, they still load Windows XP. There is nothing wrong with XP, but it's just that I've always wanted something different.

Windows 7 will provide that difference. I can go and buy a netbook now, but I will have to buy a copy of Windows 7 later. And then there is the probability that it will not install properly without downloading the updated drivers or hunting for the relevant fixes on forums etc. I h*te that.

I'm really looking forward to it's touch based feature. It's not new, but previous Windows were generally based around a pen. With Microsoft borrowing ideas from the iPhone, it's starting to become fun. It's not working flawlessly as demonstrated by the Windows 7 team themselves, but it is different and just the kind of refreshment I need.

Once Windows 7 rolls out on the netbooks, and they start copying the aluminum and thinness of the apple macbook which they invariably do, there probably won't be any reason to switch to a Mac. Besides, there will always be a time to switch to a Mac later, when they innovate on their previous designs. Although with Snow Leopard looking so similar to Leopard, it's not going to be anytime soon.

For business use the Snow Leopard is sometimes a must with it's Microsoft Exchange compatibility. But for the new users to pay for the super extra stability, which they should have got with the original Leopard, is just hard to swallow. What are those regular updates doing? Adware for iTunes store?

Leopard has been out for quite some time and it's flawless for running the fundamental things. Although it still looks better than Vista and to some extent it looks better than windows 7, I can't help thinking that Leopard has now become too common and the look has become somewhat bland.

Annoying Dock - O(For F***)SX

I'm not talking about the white plastic thing you throw away when you get your iPod Touch.

The more and more I use the Mac at work, the more and more I find the dock annoying.

I'm sure if it's used at home, I'd love the way it magnifies and admire at the way files can come out in stack fashion.

However, since a lot of the software I use at work has status bars(with functions) at the bottom of each window, except safari, the dock just gets in the ($%&'& way.

I've tried reducing it's size, turning off the bounce, magnification and it feels like it works and then sometimes it doesn't. I've moved it to the side of the screen and it's solves the problem a bit.

I am getting used to OSX, but I just hate getting used to the way OSX uses it's screen estate. I need that full screen.

Linux on the Netbooks - They Blew it to Hell!

I really didn't like the the way linux came out on earlier netbooks.

Why couldn't linux come in one flavor?

Why couldn't the interface be a bit more stylish? They could have put all those 3D zoomy, twirly, flashy, bouncing features. Instead they went for something colorful and child-like. If it's going to be unfamiliar, make it cool.

Why didn't Linux come with a gimmick? OSX had cover flow, expose and spaces.

If there was one platform that could push Linux into the casual mainstream, netbooks were it.

With Firewalls, anti-virus etc slowing down the atom processor, the Linux was so the answer.

Now with windows 7 coming out, it's all over.

Safari 4 Beta - Something Something.

I think netbooks, Apple and Nintendo have hit the head on what people tend to want today. People are too casual to care much about the specs, so long as it gets the job done by being cute, pretty and gimmicky.

Take Apple for instance. They take something good from something and then put it into their something. (???)

Their new beta version of Safari 4 is really pretty and very fast. It takes the pretty features of Google Chrome such as the title bar tabs. They then takes features from their iTunes, which took features from someone else, such as coverflow and made it look really pretty.

Where as Firefox 3.1 beta 3 has great techy features, such as the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, Web worker thread support, Native JSON support and improved Gecko layout engine.....

It still reigns supreme. It's Add-ons are forever the reason. There is going be one add-on that is indispensable to someone. That's if they know that they exist.
