Dream Job - Writing Reviews?

People complain about reviews that they see in established computer sites and such.

I've often wondered what it's really like to be a reviewer. Do they still have that feeling of 'oh cool, another gadget to review, heaven!' or do they get jaded and think 'what the hell, another piece of junk that just looks like the other one, but they're a big sponsor, I suppose.'

Do they get stressed? Do they get any freedom on how they write reviews? Are they forced to do write things in a certain way due to advertising pressure, or SEO?

Do these companies want reviewers to a have surplus amount of passion and let them get away with drivel once in a while because reviewers that can write quality stuff get burnt out quicker?

Sometimes I find Apple fanboys and girls annoying. But then again, I appreciate, maybe, where they are coming from. Just having an illusion that a piece of expensive kit will work out of the box is unbelievably great. Of course it doesn't pan out that way, just look at Apple Support on their homepage and you'll see the problems that they have with DNS.

On the PC, it's no better. In fact, apparently Windows stores all those juicy information about the websites you visit so that you can access them faster the next time you click on them. But, being innocent COMPUTERS! They will get corrupted from time to time and slow down the internet!

For goodness sake, I wish I didn't know about this, so I can just blame it all on bandwidth.

Visually Explore Your Results!

Getting the right information, fast, accurate and relevant is what searching is all about. But then, if it's just looking for the latest news on the Sarah Chronicles, maybe it doesn't have to be so.

In fact, it would be cool to search for time wasting information visually. You know, like in 3d, or a spinning cube with previews on it. Well, that's what Search-Cube does.

Just by pressing a few keystokes, you can rotate all your search results in a fancy cube. Great for wowing your friends and great for confusing first time computer users.

Clutter up your Mac Desktop! Use Grapes!

How many times have I seen those beautiful wallpapers on Macs where there is rarely any icon in sight, excluding the dock.

In reality, everyone puts everything on their desktop, mostly their downloads. It clutters up the desktop and provides fast access to all the stuff that's been downloaded, providing you can remember their position and funky names.

Now you can confuse yourself even more and waste time in a cool and fun way. A snappy little program called Grape, similar-ish to BumpTop but in 2D, exclusively for the Mac allows you to rearrange, resize and zoom in on your desktop junk!

Overloading your Computer with Information

I admire when researchers or heavy computer users, who litter their computers with everything and anything, manage to retrieve their information quickly and without fuss.

Most procrastinating web worker would spend time organizing things into pretty folders and cutting down on clutter.

What those clutter techno drones do is that they use software that allows them to add tags to their files. So searching for a particular thing brings up all the files related to their keyword.

I don't know if I should be thankful, but for me, I never ever have that much information that I need to tag things. Even on this blog, I put words into the labels, but I don't use them at all.

Internet is like a Japanese Sports Car - You Tune It.

Knowledge is power. It can also be an irritating thing. What is the world coming to when things like accessing the internet can be so irritating.

Take Microsoft Internet Explorer v7 and up. That annoying first run screen that if your lucky, goes away the first time. If your not, you have to go to the damn registry to change your 0 to 1. I hate that.

Then there is this hype of Adware, spyware and all things that everyone will have on their hard disk just by browsing the net. How many times must I scan the computer just for it to tell me that it's clean.

Getting rid of installed programs or add-ons that you don't need to get that extra juice in terms of performance is absolutely ridiculous! What if I need all of them? What if I have lots that I use? Will just getting one or two speed up anything?

Tweaking your browser with JavaScript off and using script blocking programs is a pain in the ('%&$. It does speed things up by a few seconds, but you miss out on many features that make the internet, kinda fun. The internet is not just about grabbing info, it can be a fun experience if you let it.

Ad blocking utilities are a necessary pain too. I don't like the blanking of all ads as some ads are useful and good to know. Pop ups are annoying and especially the ones that scroll across the screen asking you to press the hidden close button.

I also dislike tweaking the configs on browsers just to make them go that extra millisecond faster. Why couldn't the makers of that piece of software have optimized it in the first place. Maybe it's one of those things that they deliberately leave out so when the next new version comes out they can say it's faster than ever.

By the way, the Mac is no better.

25 Hour Battery Life - Finally a Reality!

To think that 9.5 hour netbooks wasn't enough. MSI Wind boasts that it's new netbook, MSI Wind U115, can last up to 25 hours!

Who on earth would want to use a netbook for any length of time? It's fun on the couch, as long as the screen goes back far enough, and it's great to just pick up and use it anywhere. It' cheap enough to put in the kitchen without worrying about flying sauce or other sticky things.

With netbooks increasing in size to accommodate the battery, and listening to customer feedback and boosting everything that was good and small in a netbook to notebook size, netbooks have become unexciting.

But then when I actually think about it, it's great not having to charge your netbook daily.

BumpTop your Desktop and immerse yourself in 3D!

Windows Xp, Linux and OSX will still confuse the average user. There is still enough users who will find difficulty finding where they saved their files. What better way to confuse them even more than introducing a 3D desktop!

BumpTop is a super cool application that turns your desktop into 3D. All those people who like clutter, stacks, piles and pinning things here and there will love this. Just like a real office desktop.

Barely useful features include having your most used files grow in size, zooming photos and gestures. All fun and useless. The only feature that I personally like are the themes!

But, if I had a large touchscreen computer, all these features would be incredible fun!
